Raila Odinga Affirms Party Will Field Candidate in 2027 Elections

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has dismissed speculation that his party will not field a presidential candidate in the 2027 general election.

While speaking at the ODM parliamentary group meeting in Machakos County, Raila challenged party members and the public to stop making assumptions about ODM’s electoral plans.

He went on to note that the party has not made any formal resolutions regarding the 2027 elections, cautioning members against committing the party to positions that have not been officially discussed or approved.

The former Prime Minister stressed that ODM remains intact and committed to its agreements, including the current cooperation with the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration that runs until 2027.

He further urged party members to maintain their ODM identity while implementing the agreed-upon cooperation framework with the government.

In a detailed address to the ODM parliamentary group, Raila explained that his decision to work with Ruto’s administration was driven by the urgent need to stabilize the nation, which he said was on the verge of collapse during the 2024 anti-government demonstrations.

He emphasized that the cooperation agreement, though criticized by some, was undertaken as a patriotic responsibility to safeguard democratic institutions and shield the country from sliding into political turmoil.
