Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured the Ligue 1 title on Saturday with a 1-0 victory at home against Angers, as they gear up for a Champions League quarter-final matchup with Aston Villa.
PSG only needed a draw in front of their home crowd to clinch the championship, starting the day with a substantial 21-point lead over their closest rivals, Monaco, with seven matches remaining in the season.
Desire Doue’s goal early in the second half determined the outcome in favor of PSG, allowing Luis Enrique’s team to claim the title with six matches still left to play.
Captain Marquinhos, who has now won 10 titles since joining the club in 2013, commented to the press, “Our ambition is to win everything. Itβs a nice feeling. This is the reward for the hard work weβve put in throughout the season, for our consistency, and the team deserves it.”
Luis Enrique was lifted on the shoulders of his coaching staff as the PSG players celebrated with a lap of honor around the Parc des Princes pitch.
The trophy ceremony will take place at a later date, as PSG remains focused on their European clash with Aston Villa, who will visit the Parc des Princes for the first leg of their quarter-final on Wednesday, ahead of the return match in England on April 15.
PSG remains undefeated after 28 matches, boasting 23 wins and just five draws, and they are on track to become the first team to complete a Ligue 1 season without losing a game.
This marks PSG’s fourth consecutive Ligue 1 title and their 11th in the last 13 seasons, highlighting their dominance in domestic football since being acquired by Qatar Sports Investments in 2011.
