Homicide detectives have arrested the prime suspect linked to the murder of Technical University of Kenya (TUK) lecturer Edgar Mokua, whose body was discovered days after he was reported missing.
In a statement on Wednesday, July 22, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspect, identified as Richard Gikuhe Mbugua, was arrested following investigations that relied on forensic intelligence.
According to the DCI, Mokua was last seen on July 6, 2026, when he left his residence at Princes Park in Lavington at around 4:20 p.m.

He failed to return home, prompting his family to report his disappearance at Muthangari Police Station after efforts to trace him proved unsuccessful.
Five days later, Mokua’s body was found at the Nairobi City Mortuary, where it had been taken by officers from Kiamumbi Police Station after being recovered near Woodcreek Academy.
The complexity of the case prompted homicide detectives to take over investigations.
Preliminary investigations established that on the night he disappeared, Mokua spent several hours at Kettle Club in Lavington with two men and a woman before the group later proceeded to Ibiza Club at Lavington Mall.
The detectives said Mokua’s companions eventually left the club, leaving him behind. He was not seen alive again.
His body was later found dumped near Woodcreek Academy.
As part of the investigation, forensic analysis led detectives to a grey Toyota Ractis, registration number KBZ 002R, which they believe was used to transport and dump Mokua’s body before speeding away from the scene.
The DCI said the vehicle became a key piece of evidence that enabled investigators to trace the prime suspect.
Following a manhunt, detectives arrested Richard Gikuhe Mbugua at Ruiru Blue Estate. They also recovered the Toyota Ractis at Murera Farm in Juja and impounded it as an exhibit.
The suspect is currently in police custody awaiting arraignment as investigations into the murder continue.
