Musalia Meets President Museveni at Mayuge State Lodge

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi held a late-night meeting with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Wednesday, November 19, at the Mayuge State Lodge in Uganda.

According to a statement released on Friday, November 21, by the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary (OPCS), the talks centred on deepening cooperation within the East African Community (EAC) and advancing shared regional priorities.

Mudavadi, who also serves as the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, was accompanied by Kenya’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Ambassador Joash Maangi, alongside other senior officials.

The OPCS noted that Kenya remains committed to the broader EAC vision of building a united, secure, and economically integrated region through enhanced political, social, and economic collaboration.

These principles formed the basis of the discussions between President Museveni and Mudavadi during the meeting at the Mayuge State Lodge.

The discussion also touched on the state of bilateral ties between Kenya and Uganda, with both leaders exploring ways to strengthen cooperation across key sectors.

The meeting took place just days after President Museveni cautioned that the East African Community could face future disputes over access to the Indian Ocean.

During a radio interview at the Mbale State Lodge on November 8, Museveni argued that Uganda must secure access to the ocean to support its economic growth and strengthen its strategic defence interests.

Museveni argued that Africa’s political setup is flawed, saying landlocked nations like Uganda should not be denied access to the ocean and warning that such disputes could spark future conflicts.

Kenya later dismissed the concern, with Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei expressing confidence that Museveni recognises the principles of sovereignty and territorial boundaries.
