The Head of State has promised to take into consideration making Diwali as a National Holiday by Next Year.
The consideration to make Diwali a public Holiday took place on Wednesday 30th October where the President had hosted the Hindus at the State House.
This was in response to one of Hindus who had asked the President and pledged with Him to make Diwali a National Holiday.

The president promised to subject the topic to the Government and let them decide on the matter.
He added that the Speaker was also there listening, and the matter was to be taken to Parliament as the right procedure.
The head of state therefore assured the Hindus that he would have made a decision by the next Diwali.
Diwali is a Hindu festival with lights held between October to November.
It symbolizes the spiritual ‘Victory of light over darkness, good over Evil and acknowledge over ignorance’.
The celebration lasts for generally five to six days.
During the festival, the celebrants illuminate their homes, temples and workspaces with oil lamps, candles and lanterns.
The festival is also marked with fireworks as well as decorations of floors with Rangoli design.
