President Ruto Slams Gachagua Over Civil Strife Remarks

President William Ruto has criticised former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following his warning that the Head of State could be removed from office and that the country risks unrest if opposition leaders are harmed.

Speaking in Nyamira County on Monday, April 13, Ruto rejected the claims, maintaining that Kenya will remain stable under his leadership.

The President also dismissed assertions that he could be forced out of office, stressing that no individual has the authority to threaten national stability or intimidate citizens.

“They are saying Kenya will end, which Kenya? As the leader of this nation, I cannot allow anyone to intimidate other Kenyans. No one has the authority to threaten Kenyans by claiming the country will collapse or that someone will be removed from office. No one will be removed from office, and Kenya will not end,” Ruto noted.

Ruto further stated that Kenya belongs to all its citizens and not a handful of leaders seeking to dictate the country’s direction.

The Head of State emphasised that decisions about the nation’s future should be determined collectively by Kenyans rather than by a few political figures.

His remarks came after Gachagua warned that the country could face unrest if any leaders from the united opposition were harmed by police.

Gachagua accused President Ruto of allowing Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen to mishandle matters of national security.

The former DP warned that any harm to opposition leaders could trigger serious unrest, alleging that the government’s approach risks destabilising the country.

His remarks followed an incident on Saturday, April 11, where united opposition leaders were teargassed by police during a rally in Kikuyu Constituency.
