President Ruto Receives King Willem-Alexander of Netherlands with Military Honor

President William Ruto welcomed King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands with a red-carpet reception during their three-day state visit to Kenya.

The Dutch royal family arrived in Kenya on March Monday 17 2025, where they were received by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Agriculture CS Mutahi Kagwe among others.

The red carpet reception accorded to them was accompanied by a ceremonial 21-gun salute.

The gun salute was fired to honor the distinguished guests symbolising respect and diplomatic ties between Kenya and Netherlands.

King Willem-Alexander therefore proceeded to inspect the Guard of Honor, which was mounted by the Kenya Defense Forces.

After the Guard of Honor, His Majesty and Her Majesty greeted other leaders present during the event.

During the visit, the Dutch royal will engage in high-level meetings with the Head of State and other government officials to discuss collaboration in governance, peace and security and economic development.

The King and Queen will also be expected to plant a tree in Nairobi as part of the Netherlands’ contribution to President Ruto’s campaign to grow 15 billion trees by 2032 to increase the country’s forest cover.
