“President William Ruto, in line with his constitutional mandate, and acting on the recommendations of the Public Service Commission, has today made the following nominations in the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties: Mr. John Cox Lorionokou – Registrar of Political Parties; Ms. Agatha Wanjiku Wahome – Assistant Registrar of Political Parties,” the statement read.

The Head of State also made a nomination for the position of Chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), nominating Claris Awour Onganga for the role.

The nominees are expected to be subjected to vetting and approval by the National Assembly.

Notably, Onganga’s appointment to KNCHR comes days after Duncan Oburu Ojwang turned down Ruto’s nomination to the position.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, in a communication on August 12, disclosed that he received a letter from Ojwang declining the nomination.

According to Wetang’ula, Ojwang cited personal reasons and a conflict of interest as the basis for his decision to reject the nomination.

He was scheduled to appear before the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs on Wednesday, August 13, for vetting.
