President William Ruto was forced to step in during a public event in Oloitoktok Town on Thursday after residents heckled Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku as he attempted to address the gathering.
The tense moment unfolded when the President invited the Governor to speak, only for the crowd to respond with loud chants and waving of hands in protest.
The Governor, who has been linked to the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), struggled to make his remarks amid the overwhelming jeers from the residents.

As Ole Lenku briefly spoke about the KMTC Campus and Affordable Housing Program and its potential to uplift Oloitoktok’s status, the hostile reception continued.
President Ruto intervened, pleading with the crowd to allow the Governor to say a few words. Despite the President’s appeal, the heckling persisted, prompting Ole Lenku to dismiss the protesters, stating that the noise of a handful of people would not make any difference.
The atmosphere shifted dramatically when President Ruto introduced State House Comptroller Katoo Ole Mitito to the crowd.
The residents broke into jubilation, warmly receiving the Comptroller, which visibly excited the President.
Ruto playfully asked the crowd whether they had a plan for Mitito, specifically inquiring about his potential gubernatorial ambitions, to which the residents responded in the affirmative.
The awkward encounter came just a day after Governor Ole Lenku was summoned by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).
The Commission directed the Governor to appear before its offices at Britam Towers Upper Hill on September 17 at 2:00 PM over remarks he made on August 22 in Kajiado West Constituency.
