President Ruto Hails Majembe After Vurugu Victory at Kasarani

President William Ruto has praised the winner of the high-profile Vurugu fight held Saturday night, April 4, at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.

The eagerly anticipated bout featured Majembe and Mbavu Destroyer.

Born Portifas Odipo, Majembe claimed victory with a devastating body shot that sent his opponent, Ferdinand Omondi, sprawling.

Mbavu was unable to continue as medics rushed to his aid, and the referee quickly awarded 21-year-old Majembe a technical knockout triumph, cementing his status as the night’s dominant fighter.

The president lauded Majembe for his impressive victory and commended both fighters for delivering a thrilling contest that reignited the nation’s passion for boxing.

He praised their skill and determination, noting that the match kept fans on the edge of their seats throughout the Vurugu Championship.

The president went on to welcome Kenyans’ enthusiasm for sporting events.

He pledged to implement measures aimed at restoring boxing to the country’s mainstream sports, emphasizing support for talent development and initiatives to grow the sport across Kenya.

The fight came after two months of intense hype, during which Kenyans were introduced to two amateur boxers from Nairobi’s low-income estates, both eager to launch their professional careers.

In the lead-up to the bout, President William Ruto joined the excitement, wishing the fighters well in a short video shared online and pledging Ksh1 million to each of them.

Following his victory, Majembe claimed the Vurugu Championship Belt, a Ksh1 million cash prize, a brand-new Toyota Noah courtesy of Odi Bets, a Taro GP1 sports bike, and a full year’s gym membership to keep him in peak condition.
