President Ruto Dons Military Uniform for KDF Day

Commander-in-Chief William Ruto on Tuesday, October 14, appeared in full military uniform as he led the nation in celebrating Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Day.

The ceremony, held at Moi Barracks in Uasin Gishu County, marked the first time President Ruto has been seen in KDF regalia since taking office.

Photos released by State House captured the Head of State leaving his office dressed in the official military attire as he made his way to the event, where he joined service members in honoring the dedication and sacrifices of Kenya’s armed forces.

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Day is celebrated every year on October 14 to honour the bravery, dedication, and sacrifice of Kenya’s military personnel—both serving officers, veterans, and those who have died in the line of duty.

The day commemorates the launch of Operation Linda Nchi in October 2011, when Kenyan troops entered Somalia to combat the Al-Shabaab militant group.

First marked in 2012, KDF Day has since become a significant event in Kenya’s military calendar, serving as a reminder of the country’s ongoing commitment to national and regional security.

The celebrations are usually held at different military bases across the country and include activities such as parades, award presentations, and wreath-laying ceremonies to remember fallen heroes.

Military leaders, government officials, and members of the public come together to pay tribute to the armed forces for their courage and service.

In addition to the official ceremonies, the day often features community outreach programs, including medical camps and charity events, aimed at strengthening ties between the military and civilians.

Overall, KDF Day stands as a symbol of unity, patriotism, and gratitude to the men and women who safeguard Kenya’s peace and sovereignty.
