President Ruto Confers Order of the Golden Heart on Late Raila Odinga

President Ruto has conferred the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (C.G.H.) on the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

In a gazette notice dated 20th October, 2025, the Head of State honored the fallen statesman with Kenya’s most prestigious national award in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the nation.

The gazette notice outlined the reasons behind the historic conferment, citing Raila’s lifelong dedication to justice, democracy, and national unity.

The document noted the widespread mourning across Kenya and beyond, calling it proof of Raila’s lasting impact, dedicated service, and the affection he commanded globally.

The President expressed gratitude on behalf of the Government and the people of Kenya, stating it was his profound privilege to sign under the authority of the Public Seal of the Republic and inscribe his name among the foremost of our national heroes.

The Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya is the country’s highest civilian honour, awarded for outstanding service to the nation. It has three classes — Chief (C.G.H.), Elder (E.G.H.), and Moran (M.G.H.).

Past recipients include Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and the Aga Khan IV and V.

In August, President William Ruto conferred the award on Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, recognising his commitment and the Aga Khan Development Network’s contribution to Kenya.
