Political Deal? Gideon Moi Exits Baringo Race Following Meeting With Ruto

Kenya African National Union (KANU) party boss Gideon Moi has withdrawn from the the Baringo Senatorial by-election race.

The former senator revealed that he had withdrawn his candidacy on Thursday, October 9, 2025, barely a week after initially announcing his intention to join the race.

The move has since given the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) a free run at the polls.

Before the announcement of the drop out, Gideon Moi had failed to present his nomination papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) as his supporters were eargely waiting.

According to reports, Gideon Moi’s decision to drop out of the polls allegedly followed a secret meeting with President William Ruto at State House.
