Police spokesperson Michael Muchiri has urged Kenyans hiring youths to ‘protect’ their business during protests not to do so, but allow the authorities to execute their work.
Muchiri cautioned that hiring protection is unlawful since police officers are tasked to ensure that businesses remain safe.
“Any youth being asked to show up in the protests and protect businesses should know that they are breaching the law to the highest degree”, he said.

This comes after goons were allegedly hired by top politicians during the recent protests in Nairobi in the name of ‘protecting businesses’ from being vandalised.
In a video that circulated online, the goons were seen armed with batons, mugging protesters and breaking into shops within the CBD.
The police spokesperson therefore assured that regarding the matter, the security force is conducting a thorough investigation into the violent incidents by examining CCTV footage, and suspects will be arrested.
He further called for restraint and peaceful demonstrations set for June 25.
Youths plan to hold a nationwide demonstration on June 25 to remember the victims of the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests for those who were killed.
