Police officers in Samburu Central recovered stolen livestock following an attack on a herder by suspected Pokot rustlers.

By the time police arrived at the scene, the attackers had already fled with several cattle and goats.

Officers immediately launched a pursuit and caught up with the suspects.

During the chase, the rustlers reportedly opened fire on the officers, prompting a retaliatory response from the law enforcers.

The officers managed to overpower the suspects, forcing them to flee the area and abandon the stolen livestock, which was successfully recovered.

The officers managed to recover seven cows and 14 goats, which were driven back after the suspects were overpowered.

Cattle rustling remains a persistent security challenge, frequently resulting in deaths, injuries, and the loss of livelihoods, prompting authorities to adopt tougher measures.

In some regions, security officials have issued shoot-to-kill directives against armed rustlers, citing repeated attacks, blatant disregard of warnings, and the need to protect civilians and their property.
