Police Nab Suspect, Recover Illegal Alcohol in Siaya Operation

Police officers in Siaya County have nabbed one suspect and seized illicit alcohol during an operation.

According to a statement shared by the National Police Service (NPS), the service that the intelligence-led operation was conducted by officers attached to Yala Police Station in Marenyo Village, Gem Yala.

During the operation, the detectives recovered 50 litres of Chang’aa and 120 litres of Kangara, alongside equipment believed to have been used in the production of the illegal liquor.

“During a successful operation by police officers from Yala Police Station in Marenyo Village, one suspect was arrested and found in possession of 50 litres of Chang’aa, 120 litres of Kangara, and various apparatus used in the manufacture of illicit alcohol,” the statement read.

NPS said all the recovered items have been secured as exhibits while the suspect remains in custody awaiting arraignment in court.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to eliminate the production, sale and consumption of illicit brews, which authorities say continue to pose serious risks to public health and security.

“Members of the public are encouraged to continue supporting law enforcement agencies by providing timely information on criminal activities,” the statement added.
