The National Police Service (NPS) has cautioned against the theft and handling of electricity infrastructure.
This comes amid a crackdown prompted by reports of stolen Kenya Power equipment in Nairobi.
In a statement by the NPS, Kenya Power electricity meters were recovered during an operation in Lucky Summer, Nairobi, that led to the arrest of two suspects on Tuesday, September 15.
The operation was conducted by officers from Lucky Summer and Ruaraka police stations in collaboration with Kenya Power personnel, with the two suspects now being investigated over the alleged theft and handling of the electricity equipment.
“An operation targeting the theft and handling of electricity infrastructure in Lucky Summer, Nairobi, has led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of several Kenya Power electricity meters and other assorted items suspected to have been stolen,β the service stated.
According to the statement, the officers acted on information concerning stolen electricity meters believed to be in the area.
Several Kenya Power meters were recovered alongside other assorted items suspected to have been stolen, which will be presented as part of the evidence in the case.
Police are also pursuing leads to establish whether the suspects are connected to other reported cases involving stolen meters.
