Atalanta’s problems increased shortly after half-time when defender Davide Zappacosta accidentally turned a cross from Mandela Keita’s side of the pitch into his own net in the 47th minute.

Parma extended their advantage in the 58th minute when Simone Lontani produced an excellent finish from outside the penalty area.

His strike put the visitors firmly in control and left Atalanta facing an increasingly difficult challenge.

Atalanta attempted to reduce the deficit, registering 20 shots during the match, but Parma goalkeeper Filippo Daffara delivered an impressive performance to preserve the clean sheet.

The victory moved Parma to 15th place with eight points, level with Fiorentina and Sassuolo.

Atalanta remained on a difficult run, having now gone four consecutive matches without a victory.
