ORPP Approves Removal of Edwin Sifuna as ODM Secretary-General

The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has approved the removal of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as the ODM Secretary-General.

In a letter dated Thursday, July 9, and addressed to the ODM Deputy Party Leader, National Chairperson, and Executive Director, the Registrar confirmed that it had reviewed the matter following previous correspondence with the party.

The ORPP said it assessed the documents submitted by ODM and noted that Sifuna had not responded to the issues raised during the process.

According to the Registrar, the removal complied with the provisions of the Political Parties Act and the ODM constitution, prompting the office to formally recognize the leadership change.

Sifuna was removed from the position after a resolution passed by ODM’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

In a statement issued on Monday, June 22, the party said the decision followed the findings and recommendations of its Internal Disputes Resolution Committee (IDRC), which had been mandated to hear a complaint against the senator.

ODM said the NEC unanimously adopted the committee’s recommendations, resulting in Sifuna’s removal as Secretary-General with immediate effect.
