Siaya Governor James Orengo has spoken out after storming out of the burial of the father of Seme MP James Nyikal.
In a statement, May 2, the county boss accused the State of orchestrating chaos during what was intended to be a solemn send-off. He claimed the disruption undermined the dignity of the occasion.
According to the governor, the situation escalated rapidly, creating tension and disorder among mourners who had gathered for the ceremony.

He added that clergy were ultimately forced to intervene and cut the service short to restore calm, with the burial proceeding without speeches in an effort to preserve order and respect.
Orengo also used the moment to defend the Linda Mwananchi Movement, maintaining that it would not be shaken by intimidation or disruption.
He emphasized that the movement remains committed to championing the voices and interests of ordinary Kenyans.
Notably, Seme MP James Nyikal accused Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda of failing to restrain a group of individuals he claimed had accompanied the senator to the funeral.
Nyikal said he personally approached Ojienda during the commotion and urged him to calm the situation, expressing concern over the conduct of the group and the level of disorder witnessed at the event.
He further questioned the nature of political popularity, arguing that genuine public support should allow leaders to attend community functions without large entourages, and cautioned against equating influence driven by money with authentic grassroots backing.
