Orengo Alleges Planned Violence Before Kisumu Rally

James Orengo, the Governor of Siaya County, has warned of a possible attempt to disrupt the upcoming Linda Mwananchi political rally in Kisumu.

The group, associated with ODM rebels, is scheduled to hold the rally on Sunday, April 26, at Kowuor Grounds.

Orengo, who is among the key figures in the movement, claimed that they are aware of alleged plans by their opponents to interfere with the event and that the individuals behind the scheme have been identified.

He maintained that the group remains committed to proceeding with the gathering despite the alleged threats.

“We are fully aware of those orchestrating violence and the interests they serve. Abandon your schemes; this movement is an unstoppable force. The voice of the people is the voice of God. Tupatane KaOwuor Grounds!” he noted.

Tensions have been rising ahead of the Linda Mwananchi political rally in Kisumu, with growing divisions among rival political factions.

Leaders allied to ODM’s leadership under Oburu Oginga have stated that they would oppose the rally, accusing the faction behind it of disrespect toward the Siaya senator.

Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi also urged residents of Kisumu to stay away from the event, arguing that it would have no meaningful benefit to them.

At the same time, the Linda Mwananchi faction has continued to position itself as a force seeking influence within ODM, rallying behind Siaya Governor James Orengo as its preferred leader and potential 2027 presidential contender.

During a rally in Vihiga County, Senator Edwin Sifuna publicly backed Orengo as the ideal successor to the late Raila Odinga, while dismissing Oburu as lacking the strength to withstand external political pressure, particularly from President William Ruto’s influence.

Sifuna also made a symbolic pledge referencing a traditional Luhya ritual as a show of support for Orengo’s political ascent.

He emphasized that there is no hostility between the Luhya and Luo communities, despite recent tensions following an alleged attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu, and dismissed criticism over the planned April 26 rally.
