ODM Supporters Prefer Linda Mwananchi Over Linda Ground Faction

Orange Democratic Movement Party leader Oburu Oginga’s Linda Ground faction is less popular among ODM supporters compared to the Linda Mwananchi camp.

According to a TIFA poll released on Thursday, May 14, 73 per cent of ODM supporters favour the Linda Mwananchi faction led by embattled Senator Edwin Sifuna.

The survey showed that the Linda Ground faction enjoys the support of 24 per cent of ODM supporters, while 3 per cent remain undecided on which side to back.

TIFA Research observed that many ODM supporters appear to prefer a more independent and people-centred opposition approach, with the strong support for the Linda Mwananchi faction reflecting growing grassroots preference for leaders seen as defending public interests and holding the government accountable.

The poll went on to show that Oburu Oginga is facing fresh political pressure after a significant decline in the popularity of ODM since the last General Election cycle.

According to the survey, ODM’s national support dropped from 32 per cent in August 2022 to 18 per cent in May 2026.

Its broad-based government partner, United Democratic Alliance, also registered a decline in popularity, falling from 38 per cent in August 2022 to 17 per cent in May 2026.

The poll further indicated that support for the broad-based government arrangement has declined over the last six months, while opposition to the coalition has increased among Kenyans.

TIFA noted that although support for the arrangement remains higher than it was a year ago, recent gains have since dropped back to levels close to those recorded in August 2025.

Despite the decline, ODM emerged as the party with the largest share of supporters nationally, followed by UDA and the Democracy for the Citizens Party led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The poll showed DCP’s popularity rose from 6 per cent in November 2025 to 16 per cent in May 2026.
