Delegates from the Orange Democratic Movement Nairobi County branch on Tuesday, March 17, endorsed Winnie Odinga, an East African Legislative Assembly Member of Parliament, for the party’s Deputy Party Leader position.
The endorsement was announced by Nairobi County ODM Chairperson and Makadara MP George Aladwa during a meeting with delegates from across the county.
Aladwa said the region currently lacks representation in the party’s national leadership structure and backed Winnie Odinga to take up the second-most senior position in the party.

He noted that the region had previously been represented in the party’s top leadership by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who passed away in 2025.
According to Aladwa, the decision followed several meetings held over the past two months in which delegates agreed that the region should secure representation in the party’s top leadership.
Aladwa encouraged delegates to back Winnie Odinga ahead of the party’s national delegates conference scheduled for March 26.
The endorsement followed a meeting attended by 17 constituency chairpersons from Nairobi County.
Winnie Odinga is set to compete with the incumbent Deputy Party Leaders, Abdulswamad Nassir and Godfrey Ososti, for the deputy leadership post.
Her appearance at the meeting marked her first major political engagement since expressing her views on the removal of Edwin Sifuna from the ODM Secretary General position.
