Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) acting party leader Oburu Odinga has assured Embakasi East MP Babu Owino that the party will fully back his bid for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat should he emerge victorious in the nominations ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking in an interview on Ramogi TV, Oburu dismissed concerns that Babu could be sidelined, emphasizing that ODM’s nomination process will be fair, open, and merit-based.
He urged the youthful legislator to remain patient and loyal to the party, affirming that whoever wins the nomination transparently will automatically receive the party ticket.

Oburu encouraged all ODM aspirants eyeing the Nairobi gubernatorial seat to come forward and face each other openly in the party primaries.
He went on to encourage them not to defect to other parties out of fear of unfair treatment.
The acting ODM leader also revealed that he has not yet met MP Babu Owino in person but has dispatched representatives to engage him on party affairs.
He urged the youthful MP to stay calm and loyal to ODM, assuring him that all is well within the party.
In recent months, Babu Owino has ramped up his public appearances, signaling a clear desire to vie for the Nairobi governor’s seat.
The situation, however, remains uncertain, as Governor Johnson Sakaja also eyeing the same seat enjoyed a close association with the late Raila Odinga and was occasionally seen at ODM gatherings.
