ODM Party Leader Oburu Oginga has penned an emotional tribute in memory of his late brother Raila Odinga as he marked what would have been the former Prime Minister’s 81st birthday.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, January 7, the Siaya Senator admitted that accepting Raila’s death remains deeply painful, noting that the loss still feels unreal.
Oburu reflected on their close bond, saying they grew up almost like twins, sharing life, laughter, and a deep mutual understanding, making it especially hard for him to refer to Raila in the past tense.

The ODM leader went on to reflect on Raila Odinga’s legacy, describing him as a towering statesman whose contribution to Kenya’s political and democratic journey remains unmatched.
Senator Oburu said Raila was more than a brother to him, noting that he was also his closest confidant and friend, and admitted that he continues to feel his absence deeply, even as he holds onto his memory.
Raila passed away on October 15 after suffering a cardiac arrest during a morning walk at an Ayurvedic treatment facility in Kochi, India.
He was laid to rest on Sunday, October 19, at his ancestral home in Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, Bondo, Siaya County, where he was buried with his trademark hat and fly whisk symbols that came to define his political identity over decades.
