Former Migori Governor Okoth Obado and 17 co-accused have reached a plea bargain with DPP Renson Ingonga in a Ksh73.4 million corruption case.
In a statement released on September 5, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) noted that the agreement was reached after a formal request by the accused to resolve the matter through an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism.
DPP Ingonga directed the prosecution team to engage the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and defence lawyers in consultations after he received the written requests from the accused.

Three meetings were held, culminating in a consensus to settle the matter through a plea bargain.
As part of the agreement, the accused agreed to forfeit assets equivalent to three times the amount in question.
“They surrendered eight parcels of land and two Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles, with a combined estimated value of Ksh235.6 million,” ODPP stated.
The surrendered properties include a Ksh40M house in Loresho, an Ksh88M commercial block in Suna East, two five-storey blocks worth Ksh57.6M, and two Greenspan apartments valued at Ksh18M.
Obado also handed over a Ksh14.5M maisonette in Greenspan, a Ksh10M Kamagambo residence, and a Ksh7.7M block of eight units in Suna East.
In compliance with the Criminal Procedure Code and Plea Bargaining Rules, 2018, the ODPP presented the deal to court, which will now decide on the final terms.
