Nyong’o Breaks Silence, Demands Accountability After Osotsi and Nyakera Incidents

Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o on Monday, April 13, chaired a high-level security meeting amid growing concern over recent disturbances in the county.

The session brought together senior county officials, security agencies, Members of Parliament, and Members of the County Assembly to deliberate on the incidents and reinforce security measures.

In a statement released afterward, Nyong’o cautioned that Kisumu’s position as a strategic economic hub could be jeopardized if swift action is not taken to address rising insecurity.

The meeting was convened in the aftermath of an attack involving Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi at Java House in West End Mall, and a separate raid at Fairways Hotel, a property associated with former Principal Secretary Irungu Nyakera.

Condemning the incidents, Nyong’o linked the attacks to wider economic risks facing the county, warning that assaults on private property and investments such as those at Fairways Hotel and Java House in West End Mall threaten livelihoods and undermine economic stability.

The county boss called on the national government to intervene swiftly, urging security agencies to restore order and hold those behind the attacks accountable.

The appeal comes days after detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations arrested three suspects linked to the assault on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi at a coffee shop in Kisumu’s West End Mall.

The suspects Carlos Owiti alias Kalonje (24), Eric Otieno alias Dude (39), and Vincent Odhiambo alias Tinga (27) are accused of being part of the group that carried out the attack, leaving the senator seriously injured.

DCI  thanked members of the public for providing crucial information and urged continued cooperation as investigations continue, assuring that updates will be shared.

The three suspects had earlier been named by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino during a press briefing.
