The National Police Service (NPS) has prohibited the police officer who shot a Form Three student from resuming work.
The incident that happened on Tuesday, March 3, 2025, at night, was triggered by a group of youths who were stopped for a random search for suspicion of drug trafficking in Majengo.
This led to the target suspect who was part of the group to raise an alarm and call for help from another group.
The group reportedly overpowered the officers, which forced one of them to open fire for protection, resulting in the death of the 17-year-old boy who was coming from the mosque for night prayers.

Regarding the matter, NPS assured the public in a statement dated Tuesday, March 5, 2025, that investigations are being conducted.
They, therefore, urged youths in the affected area to remain calm and cooperate with investigators by providing information that may assist in the investigations.
NPS further stated that the police officer involved in the incident was identified and forbidden from resuming work.
“Upon receipt of the report, the police commenced investigations immediately and identified a police officer suspected of involvement in the incident. Necessary action was taken, including disarming and interdicting the officer, as well as notifying the Independent Policing Oversight Authority, in compliance with the law,” NPS stated.
