NLC Issues Notice to Land Owners in Nairobi

The National Land Commission (NLC) has recently notified all landowners in Nairobi with leaseholds whose leases have expired or are about to expire to apply for an extension or renewal.

Through a notice published in a local daily on June 22, the commission directed the affected landowners whose leases have five years or less remaining to expire to submit their applications.

According to NLC, all those affected are to submit their documents to the Commission in triplicate for renewal.

In its notice, the NLC outlined specific requirements that applicants must meet for their extension or renewal requests to be considered.

First, individuals are required to fill out and submit either Form LA 22 (for extension) or Form LA 23 (for renewal), which are available for download from the commission’s official website.

Moreover, applicants must attach a current official land search, a certified copy of their lease title, a copy of their national ID, and a KRA PIN certificate.

Additional documentation is required depending on the leaseholder’s legal status.

Notably, where the property has been passed down through succession, confirmation of the grant is mandatory.
