New Diplomatic Complex Planned in Gigiri to Host UN Missions

The Kenyan government has initiated plans to acquire land in Gigiri for the construction of a multi-storey office complex aimed at hosting diplomatic missions linked to major United Nations agencies based in Nairobi.

In a notice dated April 28, the State Department for Foreign Affairs invited landowners and developers to submit expressions of interest for suitable parcels within the city.

The proposed development is expected to support missions associated with the United Nations Environment Programme and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, both headquartered in Gigiri.

According to government officials, many of these diplomatic missions have operated from rented premises since the 1970s, with existing office spaces now considered inadequate in terms of size, infrastructure, and modern facility requirements.

The new development is intended to address these challenges by providing a centralized, purpose-built environment tailored to diplomatic operations.

Authorities are seeking between one and 1.5 acres of land within a three-kilometre radius of the UN complex.

The site must be located in a secure and accessible diplomatic zone, with essential infrastructure including road access, water supply, sewerage systems, electricity, and telecommunications already in place.

Interested bidders are required to submit clean title documents, zoning approvals, maps, and price proposals.

Submissions must be delivered by May 12 to designated government offices in Runda, as part of the evaluation process for the proposed project.
