The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), in partnership with the Kenya Trade Network Agency (KenTrade), has introduced changes to the processing of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) permits.
The new system will affect importers, clearing agents and other stakeholders using the Trade Facilitation Platform (TFP), with the changes taking effect on September 28, 2026.
NEMA announced that the process of opting in Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) for EPR permits will be fully automated.

Under the new system, importers applying for NEMA EPR certificates through the Single Window System will have their KRA PINs opted in automatically, eliminating the need for manual intervention by NEMA officers.
The authority said the automation is intended to simplify and speed up the EPR application and processing process while improving access to the service.
The changes will also allow users to access the service around the clock and are expected to improve operational efficiency and the overall user experience.
The automated process will apply to EPR certificate applications submitted through the Trade Facilitation Platform from September 28.
