Earlier, Raila had showed interest for vying for the position of African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson in 2025 which Havi believed left the leadership vacuum in the opposition.
I will be running for President in 2027. It is now evident that there ought to be a replacement for William Ruto. And you can see, my cousins, Baba’s other sons are quite determined to ensure that he is settled at the continental level rather than coming here and if Baba doesn’t want to do it, then some of us will do it.
Havi said.
Raila is currently actively campaigning for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission (AUC) in which to secure the position, Raila needs two-thirds of the votes cast by the 48 eligible member states.

Nelson Havi had in the past vied for a parliamentary seat in 2022 with UDA ticket but lost to MP Tim Wanyonyi. Havi agreed to his loss and even congratulated and supported Tim for his win.
His sudden interest to Presidential seat will change the elective season in 2027 where an opposition leader will have to be chosen to contest alongside with the current President, President William Ruto.
