The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has clarified that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has not been summoned over alleged tribal or divisive remarks.
A document circulating on social media claimed that Gachagua had been asked to appear at the commission’s offices at Britam Towers, Nairobi, for allegedly violating the National Cohesion and Integration Act, 2008, through hate speech and ethnic discrimination.
NCIC dismissed the document as fake, emphasizing that it had no connection to the commission.

The clarification comes shortly after Eldas MP Adan Keynan urged NCIC to investigate Gachagua over allegations linking him to funds from the Minnesota health fraud used to construct a mall in Eastleigh.
On Tuesday, January 6, Eldas MP Adan Keynan accused former DP Rigathi Gachagua of making false and malicious claims about a mall, alleging the statements were deliberate.
Keynan called on the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to investigate Gachagua’s remarks and take appropriate legal action.
The Jubilee MP urged the commission to act swiftly, citing the alleged comments as constituting hate speech and ethnic incitement.
The Eldas lawmaker also urged that Gachagua retract his remarks and issue a public apology, describing the allegations as false and unjustified.
He stressed that the mall in question was lawfully developed on land acquired in 2009 and that linking it to alleged fraud that occurred later is factually and chronologically impossible.
Keynan’s call for retraction and closer review follows comments Gachagua made at a church service in early January, during which he suggested that a mall in Eastleigh was connected to proceeds from the Minnesota fraud case and alleged ties between the mall’s owner and senior political figures.
Public pressure, including formal complaints from the mall’s proprietors, has since prompted calls for the National Cohesion and Integration Commission to investigate whether his statements amount to hate speech or undermine national unity.
