The National Police Service Commission has disclosed that 232 firearms and 1595 rounds of ammunition have been surrendered by residents so far in Kerio Valley.
In a statement on Friday, September 25, the recovery occurred during an ongoing exercise of surrendering firearms through the cooperation of community members and peace committees.
According to the police, the surrendered weapons were all acquired illegally by the local residents.

Police confirmed that on September 24, residents of Tot surrendered 27 illegal firearms, among them AK-47 and G3 rifles, at the Tot Police Station.
This followed an earlier handover on September 23, when community members voluntarily submitted 15 AK-47 rifles and 77 rounds of ammunition to authorities in the area.
The National Police Service (NPS) applauded local leaders, elders, and residents for their goodwill and cooperation in advancing peace and stability across the volatile Kerio Valley.
At the same time, police urged members of the public to sustain the momentum by providing information and surrendering any illegal weapons still in circulation.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo had earlier noted, on September 18, that a majority of the firearms in the region remain in the wrong hands, underscoring the importance of the ongoing disarmament exercise.
