A National Police reservist is in custody awaiting arraignment after being arrested for participating in criminal activities.
The suspect, who was found in possession of an AK-47 rifle, is believed to have been part of a gang that terrorised residents of Kirindini in Igembe South.
Instead of supporting law enforcement, the reservist reportedly collaborated with criminal gangs involved in robberies in the area, including a violent robbery at Kirindini Shopping Centre on December 19, 2025.

Authorities said the suspect was identified after reports were made to detectives regarding his use of a government-issued rifle in advancing criminal attacks.
Detectives from the DCI used tips from the public to track down the suspect. Following leads in the villages of Kina Meru, Kiutine, and Kina-Duba, they successfully apprehended the officer.
During interrogation, the suspect disclosed the location where he had hidden the firearm. Investigators recovered the AK-47 rifle along with a magazine containing two rounds of 7.62 x 39 mm ammunition.
The government-issued rifle and its magazine were confiscated, and the suspect was placed in custody as detectives launched a search for other members of the gang.
