President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah of Namibia has dismissed the minister of agriculture Mac Hengari following rape allegations.
According to reports, a minor has accused the minister of having raped her.
Hengari secured his government job in March might also face prosecution for abduction and abortion, which is illegal in the country.
“President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has relieved Hon. Dr. Mac-Albert Hengari of his duties as Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform”, the president’s office said in a statement on their social media platform.
“The termination of tenure takes effect from Wednesday, 23 April 2025, when Hon. Dr. Mac-Albert Hengari should have tendered his resignation”, the statement added.
The country has been under the regime of Nandi-Ndaitwah, the first woman to become president in the country since March.
The Head of state was criticized for appointing Hengari who despite having a criminal investigation that had allegedly been opened in November 2024.
