Members of Parliament are proposing an increase in the gambling age and a minimum amount to be placed in bets.
Speaking during a parliamentary meeting, MP Beatrice Elachi claimed that the government should increase the minimum gambling age to 21 years and the minimum amount of placing bets to KSh 50 on all betting sites to shield youths from irresponsible gambling.
“We discourage young people from engaging in it, because getting sh50 is a bit hard. It is like these people are so powerful that they can pass a Bill that can be shaped into what they want. What we are doing to our young people is wrong”, the Dagorretti North MP said.

The proposal was supported by Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah, who affirmed that the bill will regulate media outlets, which, according to him have developed a tendency to advertise even after watershed hours.
