Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has addressed claims that she is defecting from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), maintaining that she will remain loyal to UDA until the end of her term in 2027.
In a statement on Monday, January 5, Wamuchomba accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of resorting to threats and insults in an attempt to pressure her into joining DCP.
She said similar intimidation tactics were used against her during Gachagua’s tenure as Deputy President when she opposed the Finance Bill 2023.

The legislator further questioned Gachagua’s assertions of leadership within DCP, arguing that official records do not list him as a registered official of the party, casting doubt on his authority to recruit or coerce members into joining it.
Wamuchomba went on to accuse Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa of being used to undermine leaders who have declined to associate with DCP while still holding elective positions under UDA.
She challenged politicians aligned to the party to resign from their current seats and seek fresh mandates on a DCP ticket if they are confident of its grassroots support, questioning why leaders such as Thang’wa, Methu Muhia and Joe Nyutu continue to advance another party while retaining positions won under UDA.
The MP made it clear that she has no intention of defecting and will remain in UDA through to the next general election.
“I’m not joining the DCP Party, and I’m in UDA till 2027,” she noted.
