MP Gitonga Mukunji Detained Following Saba Saba Day Unrest

Manyatta Member of Parliament (MP) Gitonga Mukunji has been nabbed over the Saba Saba protests violence.

In a statement on Monday, July 7, the National Police Service confirmed that he was among those arrested but did not disclose his location of detention.

Reports indicate that he might have been apprehended due to allegations of incitement to violence during the Saba Saba Day protests.

According to Lawyer Ndengwa Njiru, the Manyatta MP was arrested around 3 pm and taken to Kibii Police Station via OB number 06/07/07/2025.

He further disclosed that Mukunji was later on picked up by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers from Juja Police Station.

“The OCS has confirmed that he only booked him for the exclusive purpose of holding him”, Njiru said.

In an update issued hours later, Mukunji was reported to be in the custody of the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU).

According to reports, he was due to face charges of terrorism in connection with the protests.
