Police in Nairobi have arrested a 32-year-old woman after she was allegedly found subjecting her eight-year-old daughter to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Dandora.
The suspect, identified as Frolence Ngendo Nyambura, was arrested after neighbours raised the alarm and confronted her while she was allegedly performing the act on the minor using a surgical blade.
Officers from Dandora Police Station, accompanied by the Sub-County Children Officer, responded to the scene and confirmed the incident.

The suspect had been restrained by members of the public before she was handed over to the police.
The eight-year-old girl, who had already undergone the mutilation, was rescued and taken to Dandora Phase 3 Health Centre for medical attention.
She was later discharged in stable condition and placed in a safe home to facilitate her recovery and ensure her continued protection.
The suspect is being held at Dandora Police Station and is expected to face charges of performing FGM contrary to Section 19(1) of the Prohibition of FGM Act, 2011, and cruelty to a child under Section 14 of the Children Act, among other charges.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the National Police Service remains committed to protecting children from all forms of abuse and holding perpetrators of FGM accountable.
The Service further noted that it would continue working with child-protection agencies and communities to combat FGM and safeguard children from violence and harmful practices.
