Nairobi County Chief Officer for Customer Engagement Geoffrey Mosiria has cautioned pedestrians against crossing busy highways.
This comes after a young man was killed while attempting to cross Thika Road.
According to Mosiria, said the incident occurred at around 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, when the young man attempted to cross the Thika Road Superhighway below a footbridge.
However, the man chose to use a shortcut instead of the footbridge and was hit by a vehicle, dying instantly.
“Yesterday night at around 9:00 p.m., a young man was hit and killed along the Thika Road Superhighway while attempting to cross the road below a footbridge,” Mosiria said.
“When I previously urged pedestrians to use the footbridges, some people were arrested for crossing the highway at undesignated points. They requested a lighter form of punishment, and we gave them an opportunity to pick garbage instead, both as a corrective measure and as an example to others that breaking the law has consequences,” he added.
He also slammed individuals who opposed the enforcement measures, claiming some paid bloggers allegedly sponsored by a politician attacked him on social media.
Additionally, the County Chief questioned whether his previous calls for pedestrians to use footbridges amounted to harassment.
Mosiria further called on Kenyans to support government efforts to promote the use of footbridges and designated crossing points.
