Mosiria Announces Sh50,000 Reward to Curb Litter Bin Theft

Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has announced a Ksh50,000 cash reward as part of a renewed crackdown on the theft of newly installed litter bins across the county.

In a statement issued on Sunday, December 28, Mosiria said the reward would be paid to anyone who provides information leading to the identification and arrest of individuals stealing the litter bins, as well as scrap metal dealers found to be buying them.

He noted that once suspects are arrested based on the information provided, the informant would receive the cash reward.

Mosiria added that a significant number of litter bins recently installed in various estates had already been stolen and sold as scrap metal, prompting the county to intensify enforcement efforts.

He noted that residents had requested the installation of the bins and that the county government had provided them to promote cleanliness and environmental responsibility.

He said it was deeply regrettable that the same facilities were now being stolen, in some cases by individuals known within the communities, while others remained silent and shielded those responsible for stealing public property.

Mosiria warned that those involved in the theft of the bins, including scrap metal dealers, would face decisive legal action.

He further noted that the county would pursue, arrest, and ensure the prosecution of all individuals involved, adding that enforcement agencies would apply the full force of the law to end the criminal activity.
