Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after he referred to him as a traitor.
In a post shared on Monday, March 16, Kuria accused Gachagua of branding political leaders who disagree with him as traitors.
Kuria also addressed the political future of the Mt Kenya region, stating that leaders who win seats in the 2027 General Election will be responsible for determining the region’s direction.

He further pointed out that Gachagua’s current political circumstances mean he cannot contest for public office, adding that other leaders who secure positions in 2027 will ultimately shape the region’s future regardless of the political parties they represent.
“You can call anyone who disagrees with you a traitor. The truth of the matter is, you stand impeached, and as it stands now, you cannot vie for any public office. That’s the bad and unfortunate situation, and I actually sympathize with you. The only consolation is that the rest of us who will hold public offices in 2027 will sit down and chart the future of our region irrespective of whichever party we will be elected on,” Kuria noted.
The dispute between Kuria and Gachagua escalated after Gachagua accused Kuria of undermining the Mt Kenya region.
The clash followed remarks by Kuria suggesting that Members of Parliament who might be elected under Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) in the 2027 General Election could later be influenced or bought off politically.
Speaking during a funeral in Kiambu County on Monday, Gachagua criticized the former Cabinet Secretary and accused him of betraying the interests of the Mt Kenya region.
Gachagua maintained that leaders elected under the DCP banner would remain loyal to the region and would not be swayed after the election.
He also expressed confidence that President William Ruto would not secure re-election in the 2027 General Election.
The former deputy president further insisted that leaders from Mt Kenya who win seats in 2027 will prioritize the region’s interests and remain committed to its political agenda.
