Months After Rehab, Kimani Mbugua Found Homeless

Former Citizen TV and NTV journalist Kimani Mbugua was spotted in Thika streets.

Following the results, the former Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, who had previously taken him to a rehabilitation centre, tracked him down and rescued him.

In a social media post on X, Mbugua was seen arriving at Sonko’s home on Sunday, March 30, 2025, after he had sought help from people around and found him in Thika.

According to the former Governor, Kimani, who has relapsed, might be taken back to the rehabilitation centre in Mombasa today and will undergo treatment once again.

“Following reports that Kimani has gone relapsed and gone back to the streets, today, I dispatched a team to locate him. He was found in Makongeni estate, Thika, Kiambu county,” the former governor wrote.

After Sonko welcomed Kimani to his home, he provided him with all the basic needs to ensure that he practised hygiene.

“He was brought to our headquarters, where we are currently overseeing his well-being after providing him with new clothing and allowing him to take a refreshing shower”

Sonko also noted that due to Mbugua’s violent nature under the influence, he would not be flown to the rehab centre but driven.

He further noted that he had chosen not to involve Mbugua’s family and cautioned that he should not be released from the rehab centre until he is well again.
