Moi University Slashes Jobs Citing Financial Strain

Moi University has issued dismissal letters to several employees citing overstuffed problems.

In a memo on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, staff were informed of their termination and urged to pickup letters confirming their layoffs.

“We regret to inform you that due to financial constraints currently facing the university, a decision has been made to implement a Right-Sizing Exercise, which we have carried out in compliance with Section 40 of the Employment Act, 2007 and the provisions of the Applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement”, part of the statement read.

The letter further stated that following the review of the university’s operational needs and financial sustainability, some positions have been affected by the redundancy process.

The staff were required to collect letters from their designated areas between May 14 to May 16.

In response to the matter, the University Academic Staff Union (UASU) told affected members to submit their employment history as it seeks to reverse the move.
