Mohammed Salah; ‘Incredible to Win at Anfield’

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has expressed that winning the league title this time is “way better” than their last triumph in 2020 because they were able to celebrate it with fans.

When Liverpool secured their 19th league title five years ago, the victory came in an empty stadium due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, after being confirmed as champions with a 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, head coach Arne Slot and the players remained on the pitch for nearly an hour, soaking up the applause from a packed Anfield.

“Salah said in an interview following the match. “This is 100% better than last time [in 2020], especially with the fans. We have a different group now, so proving we can do it again is something special.”

Salah scored his 28th league goal of the season against Tottenham, surpassing Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero to become the top foreign goal scorer in Premier League history.

Liverpool waited 35 years for this celebration as Premier League champions, and they truly earned it.

Reflecting on winning the league at Anfield, Salah added;

“When I was watching the Arsenal-Crystal Palace game, I didn’t want to win it then. I wanted an experience we hadn’t had before.”

After scoring, the Liverpool star took a selfie with fans in the stands, using a phone handed to him by a supporter from the famous Kop end. He turned his back to the crowd, smiled for the camera, and then returned the phone as chants of “Mo Salah” filled the air.

“Winning the Premier League here with the fans is special; it’s an incredible feeling,” Salah stated. “This is way better than five years ago, without a shadow of a doubt. To do it again after five years is something special.”
