According to Sonko, the suspect identified as Ali is believed to have carried out the brutal attack on Ombui as he escorted his child to school in Mathare.

The former governor noted that the brutal nature of the incident pushed him to personally follow up on the matter until the suspects were finally arrested.
He stated that details surrounding the attack deeply affected him and strengthened his resolve to pursue justice for the slain Mathare father.
Sonko also praised officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations based in Ruaraka for their efforts in tracking down the suspects and ensuring progress in the case.
Following the killing of Michael Omworo Ombui, Sonko announced that he had adopted Baby James, the young boy who reportedly witnessed the fatal stabbing of his father while they were heading to school in Mathare Area 4.
Sonko stated that the child would now become part of his family as he seeks to support him through the difficult period following the loss of his only parent.
He further revealed plans to seek professional therapy services for the child to help him recover from the trauma before enrolling him in a different school to continue his education.
