Microsoft to Cut 6,000 Jobs in Major Restructuring

Global tech company Microsoft has announced plans to cut 6,000 employees in its recent development.

This layoff will affect employees across all teams and regions including African counties such as Kenya where Microsoft has an office.

In 2019, Microsoft established the Africa Development Centre (ADC) in Nairobi.

ADC employed hundreds of employees in areas such as software development, machine learning and data science.

According to the tech company, the move will aim to reduce unnecessary layers of management to make the company more efficient.

Microsoft has not so far specified the regions that will be affected the most, which makes it unclear the number of jobs that will be lost in Kenya.

The layoff becomes the second the second largest since the elimination of 10,000 roles in 2023.

In January, the company announced a small round of layoffs that were performance-based, but reports indicate that the new job cuts are not related to performance.
