Manyatta MP Urges Government to Address Allegations in BBC Documentary

Mnyatta Member of Parliament (MP) Gitonga Mukunji has urged the government to respond to the British documentary and compensate the affected families.

Speaking during an event on Monday, April 28, 2025, Mukunji stated that it is a ‘shame’ that the international media houses are releasing detailed reports of what happened during the Anti-Finance Bill protests in June.

“I want to condemn the fact that there has not been a solid investigation to determine who exactly killed the youths. I want to call on the government that if they have an alternative to what transpired, they should be able to release it”, the Manyatta MP said.

“It is also a shame that we have to wait for the BBC to create a documentary so that we can start answering the questions about what happened. When the youths were going to protests in the parliament, they were fighting for every Kenyan,” he added.

He further requested the government to step up and compensate families who lost their loved ones during the June protests.

His remarks come after the BBC documentary was released, featuring the events which took place during the protest, which led to over 60 deaths.

According to the documentary, the BBC claimed that one of the shooters was from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
