Manchester United’s league struggles continued as they suffered their sixth home defeat in the Premier League following a 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.
United introduced their new signings Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven to the Old Trafford crowd ahead of kickoff looking forward to a great performance.
However, the first half was a clear indication that it was not going to be a United’s good day in office. Despite their struggle to build up play and control the game, it ended 0-0 at the break with the Red’s having no shot on target.
Palace made the breakthrough in the 64th minute of the second half, as Mateta converted from close range after a header from Maxence Lacroix had hit the crossbar – gifting the Eagles the lead.
Crystal Palace scored their second of the match from a Mateta brace. He slotted home from a cross courtesy Daniel Munoz after the right-back had broken clear – once again.
Mateta showed his goal-scoring instincts to find the back of the net on two occasions, and it was a powerful performance from the 27-year-old, who is now on 10 Premier League goals.
Both teams switch their attention to the FA Cup, with Man United welcoming Leicester City to Old Trafford in the fourth round of the competition on Friday night, while Palace will head to Doncaster Rovers on February 10.
